      Tasting Notes and Description
Spätlese (late harvest) is, as its designation indicates, picked late, usually at the end of October, in the Niederberg-Helden Einzellage in Lieser. Here grow old vines, which were planted in the middle of the last century and are partially ungrafted. The grapes have a long ripening phase, hence the sugar reading at harvest is higher, as is the aroma potential. A Riesling hardly to be topped in terms of density and expression. A dry and truly exquisite wine.

The Estate has been practising organic since 1990 and is since 2013 Eco certified by the independent control agency GfRS. Simultaneously the transition began to a complete biodynamic cultivation of the vineyards. This was certified by Demeter in 2016, the highest level of natural viticulture for grapes and vineyards.

The 2019 vintage was the second summer of the century in a row with fantastic Rieslings and enormous ageing potential. The warm growing season with dry periods during the summer brought an outstanding ripeness of the Riesling grapes.

Since the vintage 2011 they have colour coded their 6 quality categories according to ripeness level and taste profile after the "Colours of Nature". The natural ripeness development of the Riesling berries is communicated through the colours of the labels.

"Delicious, mouth-watering dry Riesling from one of my favourite Mosel producers. The extra palate weight and the warmth of the vintage are a perfect foil for the minerality, cirtrus-edged acidity here. Pear and apple, with a hint of spice and a stony, bone dry finish."
      Tim Atkin

"You could think of this as Sybille Kuntz's Grosses Gewächs. Deep gold. Both intense and vibrant on the nose. Pure ripe Riesling with a hint of hazelnuts. Certainly no lack of acidity even after this hot summer - an almost painful level. Real tension and excitement on the palate. Still quite youthful and unevolved but promising much with a smoky undertow, the way that Clos Ste Hune has. Real energy here and the alcohol is well contained. Long.13.5 %. Drink 2022-2030."
